Our first meeting was a great success in spite of a panic with regard to a venue!
As our members know, our regular venue was not available. Umami Restaurant in Adliya, Bahrain was, for the last four years, our home, our meeting place, the venue for two very successful Colours of Life events, and our first (and only) Open Mic in 2017. For a number of reasons our patron, Momen, who had until now offered Umami to us, free of charge and included, water, coffee and tea on the house, has closed it down in search of a new location. However, thanks to his efforts and goodwill with a neighbouring restaurant, Florence, at the last minute we had a venue!
Our meeting for 2018 kicked off with a visit from an award-winning writer Siobhan Fallon, author of The Confusion of Languages and You Know When the Men Are Gone. Siobhan read from her book, and shared insights on how to establish oneself as a literary writer, which magazines and contests were worth entering and a lot more.
The evening wrapped up with a Q&A session and members meeting and catching up after the December break. We welcomed new members and have plans for an exciting year of writing ahead.
